It often surprises me how willing many people are to throw away another person’s life. There are many examples. Impatient car drivers often tailgate people riding bicycles and scooters (including me). If the cyclist falls for some reason (e.g., hits a pot-hole, sand, etc.), the car probably could not swerve quickly or far enough to avoid running over them. Wealthy people choose to live decadent lifestyles, instead of helping poor people. People choose to have their own children, instead of taking care of children orphaned by wars, natural disasters, accidents, etc. It isn’t hard at all to meet with some unfortunate circumstance that leaves one living on the street (untreatable illness, abandonment, addiction, etc.). To many people and institutions, if you aren’t willing/able to do what they want, you might as well be dead.
